The website Silent London has a post about some of the goodies available as part of the British Film Institute's Dickens On Screen festival this year. The films will include the 1922 Oliver Twist, and the rare film The Only Way, an adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities from 1927.
You can get all the details about Dickens On Screen's schedule, including many more rarely seen gems, here.
And below is a short special from the BFI about how audiences in the pre-film era enjoyed "magic lantern shows" of the works of Dickens.

I know this is probably hopeless, but I'm planning to attend at least a couple of these, and I've been combing the internet for fellow-minded souls in/near London who'd also like to go. Any takers?

If only I were over there, I would LOVE to! But I'm afraid that's not much help . . .
I hope you find someone, though. Which ones do you plan to see?

I'm for sure going for the 1952 Pickwick Papers! Also would like to go to The Old Curiosity Shop, the "Adapting Dickens for Television" panel session, and I'm intrigued by the 8-hour Nicholas Nickleby though I suspect it will sell out.
Yes, if only I had any Dickens-loving friends...
