Such a beautiful piece of prose! I think that it would have done very well cinematographically too. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

I love Harriet Walter, too. I first saw her in the Lord Peter, take that back. I first saw her in "Sense and Sensibility," and you're completely right about her disappearing into her roles, because I never once recognized the wonderful actress playing Harriet Vane. It's rather peculiar, because she has such a distinctive face and voice. She's perfect for Harriet Vane.
The main question for me, though, is: how did you like Edward Petherbridge as Lord Peter? (Not that this has anything to do with Dickens...) I dearly loved him. Sigh.
