Interesting association.
They both certainly did very wacky characters. Look at Dogberry ("Much Ado About Nothing"). He would fit right in with many of Dickens' characters.

I actually have thought before that they were quite similar, but though I love Dickens, I actually can't stand Shakespeare after having to read 8 plays in high school. Maybe I missed something, but gender-bending gets old after about six plays of it. ;)

Oh, I love Shakespeare, and the girls-dressing-up-as-boys-and-fooling-everyone plots have always been among my favorites. I've already mangled several Shakespeare plays into science how to combine them with Dickens... Hmm.
