But definitely not a fan of cats. I'm rather upset at him about that.

Really? I didn't know this. (You learn something new about Dickens every day. :-) ) I seem to remember reading a rather sweet anecdote about Dickens and a cat, though. If I can find it again, I'll post it.

Every time a cat is mentioned in any of Dickens' books, it's nasty in some way. Krook's cat is a horrid creature. James Carker, one of Dickens' nastiest characters, is described as cat-like. I think Uriah Heep is described as cat-like...
