Did Dickens invent the word boredom? It seems he did, in Bleak House. Strange for a word like that to come from a man who was probably never bored a minute in his life.
An upcoming London production of A Tale of Two Cities(based on a never-produced adaptation by John Gielgud and Terence Rattigan) "reimagines Dickens's dangerous and doomed antihero Sydney Carton as a
member of the 27 Club (which includes Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt
Cobain and Amy Winehouse)." Well, that'll be an interesting experience for him. Tickets are available here.
Dickens is back on the ShortList site again, this time as part of their "30 Most Memorable Literary Fathers" list. Bob Cractchit and Daniel Peggotty made the cut (even though, as they acknowledge, the latter isn't David's biological father).
I'm a little late with this, but the Dickens on Tour exhibit officially went up at the Dickens Museum last month. But as you can see on the page, they're asking people to continue squiring Mr. Dickens around!
