I urge your readers to check out my post on a special category in hell for Dickens editors who in footnotes give away the deaths of characters 100s of pages ahead of when Dickens wanted readers to get the news.

I see they did it again: editors of Penguin Our Mutual Friend give away little Johnny Higden's death at the beginning of the chapter in which he dies. These editors must cease and desist!
