'Dickensian' trailer

This one doesn't just have a few glimpses here and there -- it's a real, honest-to-goodness trailer with plenty of footage, plus show creator Tony Jordan talking about the show's premise. I have to say, I like the look of this!

TCM alert

The 1935 adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities will air on TCM tomorrow at 6 a.m. Eastern.

More on 'Dickensian'

The newly released BBC One autumn/winter newsreel has a few quick snippets from Dickensian. I really wish I could give you a reliable link, but I'm having trouble finding one. The BBC's own video hasn't been working for me all day, but I'll share it anyway, in case it works for some of you. And here's one from YouTube, which I'm hoping will be up for at least a while before it gets yanked. One way or the other, you should get to see it!

Dickens: The wallpaper

Check this out! Mura Innovations in the U.K. has a wallpaper featuring Dickens characters, from the illustrations drawn by Joseph Clayton Clarke, a.k.a. "Kyd." It's part of their retro collection, which can be seen here. Wouldn't you just love to have this on a wall?

The company has very kindly offered me a framed print featuring the wallpaper. I'll post a picture when it gets here!

'Dickensian' at MIPCOM

It's been a long time since I studied Spanish (and I wasn't that great at it then). But Google Translate tells me, more or less coherently, that this article states that BBC Worldwide will showcase Dickensian at this year's MIPCOM, "the year’s most anticipated global market for entertainment content across all platforms." The event will be held October 5-8 in Cannes.

Does this mean that there will reports and maybe even footage leaked online? I have no idea, but I'm hoping!

Befriending Dickens

In The New Yorker, Tim Parks imagines what it would be like to meet and make friends with four different classic authors. Dickens is one of them. 

'Christmas Carol' update in the works

Variety reports that Ice Cube will star in the movie Humbug, "a contemporary retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic story of a wealthy real estate mogul who is shown a path to redemption by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future." Tim Story will direct.

New Knickerbocker editions

A new flexibound edition of A Tale of Two Cities from Knickerbocker Classics, with a new introduction by Brian Bartell, comes out on Tuesday. The same publisher has already released Oliver Twist, and plans to release Great Expectations in February.

R.I.P. Dickie Moore

The actor played Oliver Twist in the 1933 film version, and a very cute little Oliver he was. 

Moore passed away on Monday at age 89.
