In January, this blog hit a major milestone -- which I totally missed at the time! January 26 marked Dickensblog's 10th anniversary. Here, for those of you who haven't seen it (and those of you who have!), is our first post from January 26, 2009.
I knew at the time I was setting out on an enlightening and exciting journey, but I couldn't have guessed just how enlightening and exciting it was going to be. Interviewing a Dickens descendant and a Christmas Carol actress, celebrating the Inimitable's 200th birthday, attending conventions and reviewing movies and writing group fanfic -- it's been a blast!
And I fully expect that it will continue to be a blast, because I'm not going anywhere. I'm having way too much fun. This blog and Dickens have been here for me through some of the highest highs and the lowest lows, reassuring and delightful constants in a world where few constants exist.
And so have you readers. Getting to know you has been one of the very best parts of the whole enterprise. You've taught me and shared with me so much that I am forever in your debt. So let's keep this thing going far into the future. As Mr. Swiveller would advise us, let us "remember the once popular melody of Begone dull care; fan the sinking flame of hilarity with the wing of friendship; and pass the rosy wine." Cheers to you, my friends, and thank you for all you've done to make Dickensblog what it is!
Congrats, Gina!! Yours was one of the first blogs that inspired me to start blogging. I'm glad to hear you plan to continue! :)
