'Oliver!' news

Danny Strong (The Butler, Game Change) has signed on to script the Oliver! remake, according to Deadline. It's also mentioned that the remake will be a Disney project and that Marc Platt (La La Land) will co-produce with Ice Cube, who's playing Fagin, and Jeff Kwatinetz.

In other Oliver! news, Shani Wallis, who played Nancy in the original remake, was interviewed recently about the film's upcoming 50th anniversary and her memories of making it.

R.I.P. Roy Dotrice

The prolific British actor played Charles Dickens onstage and on television (Dickens of London), and also played Fagin in the 1979 revival of Oliver! Dotrice passed away Monday at age 94.

Could Adele be the new Nancy?

The New York Daily News reports that the British singer is in talks to star in the upcoming Oliver! remake.

The silent 1922 adaptation of Oliver Twist airs at 9:15 a.m. Eastern tomorrow, as part of the channel's "Summer under the Stars" day honoring Lon Chaney. If you haven't seen this one, you'll want to set your DVR for tomorrow morning! It doesn't air very often, but it's very good.

'Olivia Twist' novel out next year

Thanks to Rachel McMillan to letting me know about Lorie Langdon's Olivia Twist, "an innovative reimagining of Charles Dickens' classic tale Oliver Twist" that will be released next March. Sounds intriguing!

Dickens at the Open Air Theatre
