'Christmas Carol' tidbits

Believe it or not, Christmas Carol season is revving up already, so I have a couple bits of related news for you!

• TV and stage actor Owen Teale ("Game of Thrones," A Doll's House) will play Scrooge in the Old Vic production of A Christmas Carol at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne, Australia. For more information, go here; for tickets, go here.
• Hope Media Group will release a four-part dramatized podcast version of A Christmas Carol, starring Sean Astin as Scrooge and John Rhys-Davies as the narrator, on November 16. According to creator/producer Mark Ramsey, "This original adaptation by Paul Cuschieri adds new elements which bring to life more of the story’s central themes: The importance of hope, the gift of forgiveness, compassion for others in need, and the miracle of redemption." Talking 'The Man Who Invented Christmas'

I'm on "The Commentarians" podcast, hosted by my friend Joe Zaragoza, to talk through The Man Who Invented Christmas. I mean that literally -- the point of the podcast is for host and guest to watch the movie and provide a running commentary, so you get nearly two hours of our thoughts on why Dan Stevens makes such a great Charles Dickens, what a pity it is Christopher Plummer never did a full-length Christmas Carol film, how much Dickens actually took after his father, and much, much more. Podcasting with Dickens

There are a couple of new podcasts of particular interest to Dickensians! The Dickens Society has started the Our Mutual Friend podcast, which "will present timely, entertaining, informative, and energetic interviews and discussions with some of the foremost scholars, readers, collectors, adapters, etc, of Dickens." (Note that it's currently available only on Soundcloud.) And Dickensblog reader Art Kilmer has started A Cozy Christmas, which will include frequent discussions of Dickens and his Christmas-themed work. Listen and enjoy!
